Wondering when to schedule your maternity photos? Here's my expert advice as a Colorado Springs maternity photographer on when is the best time to schedule your session.

Let's Talk Timing

If you're expecting and thinking about booking a maternity photoshoot one of the first questions you might have is, "When should I schedule it?".

You'll probably hear a lot of different answers but the truth is, the best time will vary for each mama. Don't worry though, I'll give you some tips in this blog that will help you determine when is the best time for your photoshoot.

As a Colorado Springs maternity photographer I've worked with lots of incredible women and found the sweet spot to be between 28 and 34 weeks.

Why this window?

By around 28 weeks your bump will start to begin taking shape, you'll be feeling fairly energetic (hopefully) and mostly comfortable. Around 34 weeks you might start to feel more swollen or tired and you may be needing to rest leading up to the big day. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you want to feel comfortable and like you want to be taking photos. Don't wait until the end of pregnancy, save that for resting and soaking up those days of just you and baby!

Things to Consider When Choosing a Date

  • Is this your first baby? If this is your first pregnancy, you might not show quite as early so you can usually wait until 30-34 weeks.
  • High risk or early delivery concerns? If you've been advised by your doctor that your pregnancy might be high risk or you expect to deliver early, it's always best to play it safe and book as early as possible.
  • Time of year Think about the time of year and what the weather might be like. There are some beautiful studios in Colorado Springs that offer an indoor space or home sessions can be perfect too!
  • Your comfort level Every pregnancy is different.  If you start feeling like it's time to schedule, it's time. Try not to put so much pressure on yourself and trust that I'll make you feel beautiful, supported and stress free no matter what stage you're in.

A little reminder from me to you

Your maternity session is about celebrating you and the wonderful magic you are creating. Whether this is your first baby or your seventh, I want to make you feel radiant, relaxed and a lil' like a goddess (because YOU are one). A badass woman creating life.
